Engine Air Filter and Cabin Air Filter Replacement
Most drivers in Phoenix know their vehicle has an air filter but not many drivers know it has two. And even less people know how important those filters are in keeping you and your vehicle healthy. The first air filter and more commonly know is the engine’s air filter, the second, less known but just as important is the cabin air filter. They both do as they are self described, as in filter air but work in different areas of your vehicle.
Cabin Air Filter
This filter is sometimes less know due to the fact that it’s usually hidden in a compartment behind or under your glovebox. The cabin air filter maintains the air that comes into the car through your heating and air conditioning system, essentially an air purifier for your vehicle’s occupants. Over time your cabin’s air filter gets dirty and clogged. Suddenly you may notice less air circulation, diminished performance of your air conditioning and heating, and or a musty odor. You might even hear a whistling noise from the vents if something larger gets into your vents. Lastly if you ignore this filter for too long it can develop mold spores that can effect you and or your passengers health.
Engine Air Filter
This air filter maintains one of the three essential element that keep your engine running. All combustion engines require air, fuel and fire to run whether they are a standard gasoline or diesel engine. The engine air filter reduces contaminates like dirt, bugs, dust, leaves, debris and anything else that may get sucked into your car’s system. Once the air filter has reached it’s limits of capacity for all that debris it will start effecting your engine. You may notice reduced performance, fuel economy, strange noises coming from your engine, misfiring cylinders or your check engine light can come on. Thankfully, this can all be avoided by visiting Perez Auto Repair and getting an inspection of your vehicles air intake system.
Air filters should be replaced at the intervals recommended by your vehicles manufacturer. But even that might not be frequent enough with our occasional dusty Phoenix air storms, and particularly if you go off-road, filters will get dirty more quickly, and they will need to be replaced more often than what’s recommended.
