Dodge is an American brand based in Auburn Hills, Michigan which makes cars, minivans, and SUVs, and is owned by Fiat Chrysler Automotive.

Founded as the Dodge Brothers Company in 1900 by brothers Horace Elgin Dodge and John Francis Dodge, the company was originally a supplier of parts and assemblies for Detroit-based automakers, and did not begin to build complete automobiles until 1915, before the founding of the Chrysler Corporation. The Dodge brothers suddenly died in 1920 and the company was sold to Dillon, Read & Co. in 1925 before being sold to Chrysler in 1928.
Before the 1970s, Dodge vehicles mainly consisted of trucks and full-sized passenger cars. After the 1973 oil crisis, Chrysler developed the “K-car”, a platform of compact to midsize cars which was launched in the 1981 model year. The K platform and its derivatives are credited with reviving Chrysler’s business in the 1980s, and one of the cars they spawned was the Dodge Caravan.
Dodge has withstood multiple ownership changes at Chrysler from 1998 – 2009.
In 2011, the Dodge brand, the Ram brand, and the Dodge Viper were separated. Today, Dodge is one brand, Ram is a separate brand which produces trucks, and the Viper is sold under Dodge’s SRT (Street and Racing Technology) performance brand.
